Our student base is comprised of youth living in New York City's Brooklyn community
of Flatbush and adjacent neighborhoods. Our children are from varied backgrounds.
Ifetayo serves a diverse population that includes African Americans as well as
immigrant families from the Caribbean, Africa and South America. Yet, they hold
in common a desire to learn about themselves and their history.
The Focus
To develop the interpersonal, educational and professional skills that will equip
youth and families to follow pathways for greater success and achievement.
The Core of our Approach
To fully develop the students in our programs in a nurturing environment of unconditional
love, acceptance, and understanding. We provide an environment that speaks to
the whole child, one that fosters an honest exchange of thoughts and perceptions
of a world fraught with challenges and obstacles to positive decision-making.
What we Provide
Providing our students with the skills necessary for success and survival is another
core element of Ifetayo's philosophy. Our organization presents young women and
men with alternate ways of redefining their beliefs, and offers a wider range
of options of what they can aspire to and achieve. This approach has generated
some of our most outstanding successes as we continue to develop programs and
provide services to youth in Flatbush and surrounding communities.
In
the African tradition, we embrace all of our children and families by welcoming
them to a place where they can explore the "what if's", with a staff
dedicated to their well-being. The care and compassion our students receive help
them to learn the answers to the "what if's" as well as many other important
life questions.
