Ifetayo's mission is to prepare young people and their families for all aspects of their lives through comprehensive and holistic programs that help to empower them to become self-sufficient and, productive adults who are actively engaged in the improvement of their communities.
Position Description:
Deputy Director works closely with and is supervised by the Chief Executive Officer, the Deputy Director performs various administrative and program oriented duties, routine financial and human resource work with a strong focus on staff management and public relations.
Relationships:
This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and work collaboratively with Program/Marketing/finance/Development staff to strengthen and expand curricula, balancing artistic rigor, youth, family development and community involvement. The Deputy Director is responsible for managing all non executive level staff and teachers.
Position Summary:
A strong knowledge in the field of arts, African Diaspora culture and youth development is needed for this position. Knowledge in areas related to conflict resolution or counseling are preferred, but not required. The Deputy Director is expected to be able to represent the organization when needed before families, donors and supporters. A strong background in the areas of management, program delivery, and organizational assessment is paramount. Project management experience is key for this position.
Deputy Director implements the Organization's mission and oversees all programs for youth 2-24 years old and their families, all public performances, seminars and workshops including, but not limited to international cultural exchange, community partnerships, school relationships, parent communications, volunteers, interns, visiting artists, scholars and new projects for over 800 youth and audiences of up to 2,600 each annually. Deputy Director will support leadership development of the teaching staff and Ifetayo Community Organization Coordinators and Directors to enable them to excel in job/duty performance as well as develop as potential leaders in their own groups.
The Deputy Director is responsible for recommending new and fine-tuning the existing infrastructure, rules and regulations, communication and management procedures, strategic and operational plans for both the Program Department and Association committees.
Assess program needs, formulate operation plan and supervise the implementation of programs designed to meet the mission and goals of Ifetayo. S/he oversees all program activities and operations, including curriculum and materials development, planning, evaluation, budgeting and reporting. Provide individual and group supervision to program employees. Prepare and/or review and approve all program reports and individual student plans prepared by teachers or counselors. Ensure that all contract deliverables are met. Responsible for chart reviews to maintain quality service, logic model & strategic plan goals and maintain and expand each program's enrollment numbers to match strategic plan goals. Represent Ifetayo at quarterly board of directors' meetings and functions. Meet with the local community planning boards (biannually), and other community organizations to address Ifetayo's needs and concerns. Develop collaboration with service providers to maintain and strengthen existing partner relationships and create vital new relationships.
Candidates Should:
- Feel comfortable with and excited about working with diverse groups of Black & Latino youth and adults;
- Have exceptionally strong writing and editing skills
- Have specific experience working with communities of the African Diaspora with an emphasis on Caribbean communities;
- Embrace Ifetayo's mission and the services we provide;
- Be able to work in a small, close-knit team environment;
- Have 5 years management experience in youth development with increasing responsibility;
- Have curriculum/program development experience;
- Have experience in materials/publications development and production;
- Have significant experience in adolescent health, arts, culture and/or youth development;
- Have direct experience working with youth;
Qualifications:
- Minimum five years in arts/youth education programming and management with experience in senior management positions.
- Graduate degree or a minimum of 10 years experience in areas that relate to nonprofit management youth development, African History, public policy, community development, international relations;
- Training in at least one artistic discipline, knowledge of arts education philosophy, state and national standards, professional development prototypes, outcome evaluations, education, community activism.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of basic accounting
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of the budgetary process
- Detail oriented ability to manage multiple tasks, to budget effectively, to be a team player, to think creatively, and to strategically plan new projects according to long range plan, organizational core values and mission.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills, with respect for people of all backgrounds and experiences.
- Experience with MS Office (word, publisher, excel and PowerPoint) applications required. Experience with planning programs a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Understanding about African Diaspora-cultural communication a plus;
- Strong track record in staff management;
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience writing grant proposals and strategic plans;
- Ability to supervise staff and take initiative according to long range plan, core principles, mission and organizational philosophy;
