We are pleased to announce the following winners of our Elise Gene Clarke Scholarship:
- Nandi Barton
Nandi Barton, who is in her second year at Morgan State University, is
18 years old and has been a participant in Ifetayo for 14 years. She currently
is majoring in Nursing, with plans to become a Nurse Practitioner. Throughout
her life she has been passionate about dance and soccer, which have inspired
her to maintain healthy habits. Her goals are to become a nurse so that
she will be able to obtain the knowledge necessary to assist her community
in obtaining the resources that will improve their way of lives.
- Selah Brown
Selah Brown, who is in his second year at Brooklyn College, is 20 years old
and has been a participant in Ifetayo for seven years. He currently is
majoring in Biologic (Pre-Optometry), with plans to become an optometrist.
His goals are to provide services within his community such as funding
non-profit organizations that promote African concepts. Another one of
his goals is to fund programs that increase the awareness of vision care
as a profession in Africa.
- Edo Young
Edo Young, who is in her third year at Medgar Evers College, is
27 years old and has been a participant in Ifetayo for 16 years. She currently
is majoring in English, with plans to become a writer. Her goals are to
become a world renowned essayist. In that capacity, she would like to serve
as a role model for other young black women striving to write material
that will contribute to the spiritual, intellectual and social empowerment
of people of color.
